Trump Pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord
Good thing, bad thing, climate conspiracy, or couldn't give a shit. Make America great again.

Personally I think it's not the best move.

Is Trump still President?

I thought according to some of the less temperate on here he was not going to be nominated/not going to be elected/would be impeached or assassinated by inauguration day/would be impeached or assassinated within a month /3 months/6 months

Fair enough. But he also did say he would agree to sign back up if a more realistic and fair deal was put on the table for the USA.

If China was serious about being green, then they'd stop building hundreds of coal power plants overseas.

China suspends 104 planned coal power plants
January 16, 2017 - 9:30 am

The Chinese government is taking dramatic steps in order to comply with the coal capacity target laid out in its latest Five Year Plan.

The National Energy Administration has announced that 104 planned and under-construction coal power projects – with a total capacity of 120GW – have been suspended.

Around 54GW of suspended capacity comes from projects already under construction.

And that’s just in 13 provinces. More suspensions to come to light, and will update this piece if that happens.

In the electricity chapter of the 13th Five Year Plan, Beijing committed to a coal capacity cap of 1,100GW — which is still a sizeable increase on the 920GW capacity the country currently has.

But the number of coal power projects in the pipeline would have taken that figure to 1250GW.

Hence this raft of suspensions.

In the last year China has grappled with a coal overcapacity crisis, and has taken a number of steps and introduced several policies designed to tackle it.

Last March the government ordered several provinces to stop approving coal plants; a month later it touted the introduction of a ‘traffic light’ system for coal power station approvals; in October it actually began cancelling under-construction projects.

And this all culminated in the set-in-stone Five Year Plan.

Re: Trump Pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord
Trump has done us all a favour.

Paris was a gigantic scam.

$100 bn a year of our money to dictators in developing countries to "help them adapt to climate change". What could possibly go wrong with that?

And as for reducing emissions, China and India are building hundreds of filthy new coal fired power stations because it's cheap and reliable energy and they need it.

The whole accord was a piece of stupid grandstanding by politicians who hoped voters wouldn't bother reading the details. Which indeed they didn't.

Whatever failings he may have in other areas Trump is an excellent counter weight to the corrupt politicians and lobbyists who cook these things up.

Trump's managed to completely isolate himself. The US states are continuing to pursue their green targets in line with the Paris Agreement.

Trump's a treasonous dick.

Re: Trump Pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord
American Michael Bloomberg is the UN special envoy for cities and climate change. He has said that irrespective of Trump's statement of withdrawal the USA can and will still make its contribution to climate change measures in partnership with cities, states and businesses. These people will not let Washington stand in their way.

Russ

No he hasn't afaik, he definitely once said climate change is a hoax invented by the Chinese to take jobs from America, so whilst he hasn't stated that's why he's pulled out of the Paris agreement, his apparent stance could've been a factor, who knows?

Spot on except that there was an ozone hole, it was caused by CFCs, every country agreed to stop using them and, as a result, the ozone hole closed up.

Hmm, I must admit this post has thrown me somewhat, I mean who to believe, the vast majority of qualified scientists who have spent years of their professional lives studying man-made climate change and have presented compelling evidence, or some thick cunt on a football forum?

I may have to go away and rethink my position.
